Licorice is the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra from which a sweet flavor can be extracted.
The licorice plant is a legume (related to beans and peas), native to southern Europe
and parts of Asia. It is not related to Anise, Star Anise or Fennel, which are the
source of superficially similar flavoring compounds.

Licorice has a sweet aroma similar to anise, star anise, tarragon, and fennel.
Use
Licorice roots can just be chewed on in its natural form, can be rubbed on teeth
to whiten them, or infused in hot water to drink as a tea.
Also licorice root is often used for a variety of health conditions like Peptic ulcer, Canker sore, Eczema, Indigestions, Cold, Caugh.
